Help us keep our county green
The Montgomery County Department of Parks is proud of our charge to keep Montgomery County green. We are stewards of over 33,000 acres of parkland, including neighborhood parks, athletic fields, historic sites, playgrounds, picnic areas, and trails. There is a park within a mile on average of every neighborhood in our county!
The scope of our responsibilities is greater than our annual budget can cover, and there is much to be done in our parks for which we need your help, including replacing trees damaged or destroyed in storms, new trees for areas lacking shade, and benches to provide more seating areas from which to enjoy nature. We invite our community to make these gifts of green for our parks.
Individuals may have a tree planted or a bench installed for various commemorative purposes, to honor a person or event, memorialize a family member, friend, or colleague; or celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or other special event through a commemorative gift. Associations and corporations may donate similarly as part of their green community service projects. These gifts used exclusively for public purposes are tax-deductible.
The process is simple:

- Enter your name and address
- Make your selection(s) of location, and type of donation
- Indicate inscription for the plaque if necessary
- Add the costs for the amount of your payment
- Print and mail it with your check.

Trees
Our professional staff will help you select an appropriate location and type of tree and arrange for a crew to plant the tree(s). Planting season is from October through May, and maintenance for two years is included in the price of $500-$2,000. Donor form
Benches
Two styles of benches are offered including traditional wood and a recycled materials bench. This gift includes cost of bench and maintenance for the life of the bench. A small standard plaque may also be ordered. Donor form
Groves/Gardens
Individual or group donors may select dedicated areas to commemorate an event or person(s) with a grove of trees or landscaped garden. Parks staff will guide donors to possible locations.
A gift of $3000-$5000 includes costs of multiple trees, plants, flowers, signage, and ongoing annual maintenance. Donor form
Other Green Donations
Other donations of cash are welcome, either for general purposes or targeted for a specific item or type of item identified by Parks staff. We have a Gift Registry of needed items for our Nature Centers, as well as approved projects that are not included in our annual budget. Items range from underwater cameras to a nature boardwalk. We will help you find a match with your cash donation and items on the naturalists’ registry.

NOTE: The donation of a tree, bench or other amenity to The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission's park system does not constitute ownership of the item, the land upon which it is situated, or the surrounding lands. The Montgomery County Department of Parks staff can accept only those commemorative gifts that are in alignment with the Commission's organizational mission and purpose. The Commission reserves the right to determine the suitability of all commemorative gifts and donations and expressly reserves the right to refuse any donation or commemorative gift. The Commission, in its sole discretion, will determine whether to repair or replace any of the commemorative gift items that are damaged, stolen or destroyed.
