Annual Median Household Income Estimates

>Download table (pdf)

Note: Estimates of the median household income for Montgomery County are made annually. Benchmarks are available for the years prior to the U.S. decennial censuses and the M-NCPPC Census Update Surveys that report the prior year's income. The increment from the last benchmark period is the average of two percentage changes. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates total personal income for the County annually. This is divided by the number of households to equal average household income for the County. The percentage increase in this average household income for the previous year is one of the two percentage changes used. The other is the percentage change in the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U) for the Washington-Baltimore CMSA. The average of these two changes has proven to be a good estimator of the change in median household incomes through the ups and downs of the past business cycles.
