“Bluegrass on the Farm”

“Medical Practices During the 19th Century ”

Learn about health and medicine during the 1800s with "Dr. Edward Stonestreet" as reenacted by interpreter, Clarence Hickey. Event is open to the public. This event is presented by the Friends of Oakley Cabin and the Underground Railroad.
"Lessons from the Past"
Saturday, September 27 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Free admission.
Kingsley Schoolhouse in Little Bennett Park. Parking will be at the Church of God, 23900 Clarksburg Road, opposite the Snowden Farm Parkway. A shuttle will take visitors to the Schoolhouse and back.
Take a walk down memory lane to the one-room schoolhouse and learn about life in the past. Meet some of the students who attended school here and see related video clips. Write on slate boards, carry water from the stream in buckets, and play a game of Dodge ball, a popular game in the early 1900's. Families can also enjoy sack races, cake walks, nail-driving contests, and more. Bring a picnic and enjoy lunch by the stream!

“Harvest Festival”

Participate in dozens of fun, free activities, enjoy live music and craft demonstrations, antique farm equipment, live farm animals and much more! Oakley Cabin Tours
Oakley Cabin has reopened for the 2008 season. Free tours are given by the trained docents of Oakley Cabin from Noon to 4pm on Saturdays through November.

The Hyattstown Mill
The mill is operated by the Hyattstown Mill Arts Project (HMAP), which hosts rotating exhibits and live music performances in the Mill Gallery from April through October. The gallery is open weekends, holidays and for special events. The new exhibit “History of Mills in Montgomery County” will be on display in June 2008. Call 301-874-2452 for more information.
