Description
The Takoma Langley Park Transit Center is an off-street bus transfer facility with 12 bus bays planned for the northwest quadrant of the intersection of University Boulevard (MD 193) and New Hampshire Avenue (MD 650) in Prince George’s County. This new facility, located adjacent to the boundary with Montgomery County, will serve routes operated by Metrobus, Montgomery County Ride On and Prince George’s County's The Bus. Important objectives of this project include providing a more pedestrian friendly environment while at the same time improving transit service efficiency and convenience.
Current
Activity (as of December 12, 2007)
The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) is providing project management and is currently involved in final design and right-of-way negotiations. There are a number of roadway enhancements planned in association with the construction of the transit center. Those items that are within Montgomery County were the subject of a mandatory referral application reviewed at the Planning Board’s April 27, 2006 meeting. View the staff report.
Planning Items
Major items examined as part of the project planning include accommodating the high volume of pedestrians, ensuring reasonable bus access and circulation on an irregularly shaped parcel, coordination with on-going nearby development as well as the planned Purple Line, and the coordination of the related roadway and infrastructure improvements. The location of the project will also require close interjurisdictional coordination.
Upcoming
Schedule
The current schedule calls for completion of the roadway enhancements and on-going efforts to acquire the parcel that is needed to construct the transit center.
