Coming Soon: In-Line Skating and In-Line Hockey Courses!
Coming this summer to the Wheaton In-Line Skating facility (just down the hill from the indoor rink)...classes in both in-line skating and in-line hockey! Courses will be available for in-line skaters of all ages and abilities. All programs will be held in the evenings (when it's cooler). Check back soon for more details! This is going to be FUN!

General Information
Wheaton Ice Arena is one of the two ice skating facilities owned and managed by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and is located in Wheaton Regional Park in Wheaton, Maryland. This year 'round NHL size rink offers sessions for all skating abilities and interests. Programs are offered for recreational, freestyle, hockey, and speed skaters. Also offered are a warming room, party rooms, a pro shop, and a snack bar. The Wheaton In-Line facility is available for leased ice time and parties from late October through mid-February.
Pro Shop
The Wheaton Pro Shop offers an extensive line of skating equipment and accessories for the hockey player, figure skater, or recreational skater (skating boots, blades, figure sets and apparel, blade mounting, custom fitting, skate sharpening). Call for hours and information 301-649-3640. Wheaton Ice is home to "Sani-Sport", an equipment odor neutralizing system which is excellent for hockey, in-line, and figure skating gear.
Snack Bar
The Snack Bar is open year 'round during most public sessions. Snacks and beverages are offered. Vending machines are available also.
Party Rooms
Planning a Birthday Party? Party rooms are available for birthday, office, and holiday parties at $45 per hour. Full service birthday parties start at $140.

Skating Tips & Rules
- To protect skaters from cold temperatures and injury from skate blades and rough ice in the event of falling, hats and gloves or mittens should be worn.
- Skates should be 1/2 to 1 size smaller than the skater's street-shoe size. Skaters should wear one pair of THIN socks or tights for maximum support. A skate should be unlaced before being put on, and then tightly replaced. If a skater's heel lifts up and down or there is inadequate ankle support, a smaller ice skate should be worn. If toes feel cramped in the skate boot, a larger size should be worn.
- Admission and skate rental tickets may be purchased 30 minutes before sessions begin.
- Schedules may be subject to changes without notice.
- Rinks reach capacity on weekends and holidays. Please plan to arrive early.
- Children 8 and under must be accompanied by someone 16 or older.
- People with disabilities who need assistance, please call the facility.
Leased Ice
Prices begin at $280 per hour for indoor ice time and $265 for outdoor ice time. Call the rink for leasing procedures and prices.
Renting the In-Line Skating Facility
Winter rental fee (ice surface) - $265 per hour
Summer rental fee (in-line surface) - $
75 per hour or $500 per day

- Beginner Group Lesson Fee - $87 per series (six 30-minute lessons)
- Advanced Group Lesson Fee - $96 per series (six 30-minute lessons)
- Hockey Instruction Programs - $141 per series (six 45-minute lessons)

Registration
You may register for classes by mail, in-person or online at www.ParkPASS.org. during our open registration period. Fee must be paid at time of registration. Make checks payable to M-NCPPC. Master Card and Visa welcome.
Registration Hours: 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Private Lessons
Private Lesson Fee - $28 and up per half hour plus applicable admission fee and, if needed, $3.15 skate rental. Arrangements for private lessons must be made with the individual instructor and are subject to ice time and instructor availability.
Session Descriptions
Freestyle - During freestyle, skaters work on jumps, spins, footwork, and a combination of the three set to a program of music.
Dance - Ice dancing consists of set dance patterns in a program set to music. Skaters should have a grasp of edges, three turns, and mohawks to begin ice dancing. Dance sessions are offered at both rinks. See the rink schedules for dance sessions.
